Good Afternoon All,
I, like all writers, have struggled with writer’s block. It is a pesky little blank page laid in front of you and blocking all ideas from shaking loose. There are many ways to overcome writer’s block, but I think there is one very important way to get rid of it completely. You see, writer’s block is in the writer, not the writing. The writing knows where it’s going and how to get there, even how-to guide the writer there, but sometimes the writer gets tense because of lack of knowledge or a deadline fast approaching and this causes the ideas to get stuck in their mind, hidden.
The best way to overcome writer’s block is for the writer to relax if the writer is relaxed them the ideas will flow normally or even more quickly and in greater abundance. So, the writer should do things that relax them, take a long hot bath where you spend time with your thoughts, maybe even thoughts about your WIP (work in progress) or take a long walk, watch a favourite movie.
And give yourself time and separation from your WIP if it is constantly giving you grief. Sometimes what you really need is some distance to clear your head of the jumble that your WIP caused. But don’t forget, even though writer’s block is in the writer, it isn’t always the writer’s fault, sometimes they just aren’t ready to continue with that current story line and are not ready to find out the ending. Don’t feel ashamed or bad about yourself if you have to put that idea away for a while before coming back to it. If you finish something else first, or even several ideas first then you have the knowledge and courage to finish the idea that got you stuck.
