Getting Back In The Groove | Back In The Editing Cave

Good morning all you gorgeous people,

It’s so great to be here again. I have been brainstorming and I have some ideas of more content for on here. So look out for that. I know I’m excited. And since school finished I have been coming up with plans to finish editing Book 1 of my Speak No Evil Series, Words From Lips. And I’m pretty excited!

So I have been getting back into editing my WIP and it feels good. I’m sinking into it nicely. And I just keep getting more and more excited! It’s really getting good. Just today while I was editing, I had a moment where the words turned into a movie inside my head. My own writing did that! I’ve never had that happen before. It got me really excited. So I think that part is pretty solid.

Honestly, this round of edits does not have too much to it. The book is pretty much polished. It feels good. This book is nearly complete. Just need to finish up these edits and implement all my changes then it’s done. It’ll be done. It seems to crazy to me. But I am pumped for it! I’ve been working on it long enough.

Anyway, getting back into the groove was pretty easy this time around. But I realized that it isn’t always, not even for me. I guess I was just so excited to get back to it and had been hoping to do so before the end of school. But given that I never got that chance, I was eager to get back to it. That passion is what led me to fall back into the story and what needed to be done with it. And I was excited to be doing something other than homework and studying. But this isn’t always the case. So I figured I’d give some tips and tricks, things I do when I have trouble getting back into the groove of things.

Getting Back Into The Groove:

  • Reread but don’t edit - because if you’ve not ready to edit you may have to ignore the edits when you do get back to editing. I’ve done this and it just means more work for you later.

  • Read over your notes - familiarize yourself with the story you were trying to tell again. This is important no matter what stage of editing you are in.

  • Listen to music that reminds you of it (or the playlist you made for it) - will help you emotionally prepare for editing the story and spending time with it because you’ll understand what you should be feeling and what your characters are feeling.

  • Start small - start with small edits first as they seem a lot less daunting. You can always move up to bigger, more complicated ones. This may seem like a waste of time and it can be, but it can also help you get back in tune with your story quicker which means it could also save you time. So it’s touch-and-go. It can be very helpful especially if nothing else works. Then you can also feel like you’re doing something productive rather than struggling to connect with the story again.

Those are the tips I have for now and they help me. I hope you find them helpful too! It was great being here, but I do have to go. I have editing to do and goals to be reached! But I do hope these help you reconnect. Happy reading and writing! Until next time.
