Good Morning Lovelies,
Hey there guys, I just wanted to talk about a type of writing that I suddenly found myself doing without realizing it and not just with flashbacks.
So, in the first book of the series I am writing one of my main characters told the story of how his family was killed before his eyes, to the other main character. I thought it was interesting and it actually surprised me, I was not planning on what happened to his family, it just happened. So, he was narrating it and she was listening. I thought it was pretty practical, I’ve seen stuff like that in books all the time, but then in the last book of the series, it happens again with a minor character. And now I find I am doing it all the time in multiple pieces.
I think that stories within stories are very interesting and can greatly enhance the picture you are trying to paint about pain, sadness, grief, loss. So, bring up a past event that did not occur in your writing, something that happened before the book did and use it to enhance your reder’’s experience of your book. It will also help flesh out your characters and make them seem more real.
I just had to create a post about this because I have been obsessing over this for a few weeks. Have any of you every played with stories within stories? Or maybe there is something else in writing that you are obsessed with or obsessing over. Please tell us and we can talk about it.
Rose Marie
