Hello lovelies!

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my writing and reading life. Hope you enjoy your stay!

Gooooooooood morning all you beautiful people,

And welcome, welcome. Today I wanted to move back into more writer-centred talk this morning as, for me at least, the writing has just started up again. This semester has been a long journey and I did not get much time for writing at all after September. But it also went by really fast which has me wanting to catch up on all the writing and blog posting and other writing-related sections of my life that I didn’t have time for because I have a lot more time now.

So, anyway, onto the writing. I want to talk about the most important part of the writing process. Which comes on the toes of getting the idea for a story. And likley the favourite part of the process for a lot of us. Brainstorming.

I got this idea when I was actually brainstorming for another new project idea I got for a heartbreaking romance series. So I just got a few ideas for titles then I got a few more, then I decided to just sit down and really see how many I could come up with. Then I moved onto character names for the main couple in each book. It was so fun and now the idea has moved to the back of my mind. It doesn’t feel as fresh or prominent. And I can focus on my more important project. But I have somewhere to start when I return to the idea.

This part of the process is extremely important as the more ideas, plot twists, characters, traits, personalities, the more interesting your book will be and maybe the better the rough draft will be when it’s done.

Plus, if you’re juggling (or you have so many unstarted projects) Like I do, having this brainstorming session can really help you get back into the idea when you come back to it and really fall in love with it again because you have somewhere to start, you aren’t just beginning from scratch.

Plus I find the brainstorming process so freeing, where there are no stupid ideas and you just write down anything that comes to your mind and you decide when you’re drafting or editing what will/won’t be in the book. But you brainstormed enough to give yourself somewhere to begin the story.

I have a list of 60 book titles for this series. Though some are a variation of other titles as I’m not yet sure which ones sound better, plus it sounds like way too many books than I would ever have hope of writing. But it’s somewhere to start when I pick it up again and gives me something to strive toward.

So never skip brainstorming, especially not for that new idea that’s been nagging at you. Just take an hour and write down whatever comes to mind and get that idea out of your system. If you have enough written down, your mind seems to settle and move that idea to the back of your mind where it belongs and you’re free to keep working on the more urgent project you’ve been working so hard on.

Things to remember when brainstorming:

  • no idea is stupid

  • it doesn’t have to look good

  • it doesn’t need to be fleshed out

  • it just needs to be enough

  • let the idea take you where it wants you to go

  • don’t fight it, this will only make the idea feel more urgent when it isn’t

  • write it down, anywhere, trust me. it is a good idea, you’ll see

Thank you so much for showing up guys. It’s so great to feel more myself again and not so stressed about everything. And I feel like I’m getting so many things done right now. But I’m also taking some time to relax and take care of myself and it feels good. Make sure to take care of you too, though your ideas may be more important sometimes, they are not more important all the time.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I love making these posts and feeling connected to you. Happy reading and writing. Until next time.
