Consistency Is Key | Routines | Showing Up For You

Hey guys, I missed you,

Hey, so great to see you guys again. What I want to talk about today is consistency and how it can help you. I think consistency saves not only time but sanity, especially for those of us who have such busy or erratically changing schedules. Having consistency can help you feel more stable, more in control when it feels like everything is so beyond your control.

So first I want to say is that consistency is success in and of itself. It is giving yourself the chance to make progress even if progress doesn’t come. But consistency is success, it means you’re giving yourself a chance to be productive even if you don’t quite get there. That’s why I find during situations such as burnout, consistency is the key to really eventually getting work done.

Lately, I’ve been struggling with some heavy burnout as my schedule is so full and so busy that even if I have time to write, then I don’t have the energy for it. But nonetheless, I’ve made a point, exhausted or not, of sitting down to try and get something done. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I can easily bang out like 500 words or more, but other times writing one sentence is as difficult and painful as pulling teeth. But I sit down preparing myself for getting work done.

I think this is the main reason why I have had a few good days lately. I could say it’s because of the inspiration of the issues happening with Ukraine’s struggles or that world issues inspire me to write better worlds. But really, I think the consistency of showing up to write, even if it feels like it’s too much. If it’s too much, then I just don’t get much done and I’m okay with that. But on days when it feels a little less daunting, I get lots done, enough to make up for the days that I get nothing done. And I’ve had to be okay with whatever work I get done or don’t get done.

Consistency has saved my writing these past weeks. I don’t think I would have gotten anything written if I hadn’t shown up every day determined to put the work in and do something, even if it was just showing up. So be easy on yourself, be gentle, we all have bad days or busy times. But don’t give up, make a point of being present and the words will come. But if you don’t show up then they never will, they’ll be forever lost to you.

I believe in you, just like I believed in me. I knew burnout wasn’t going to last forever, it never does. It just takes time, like a wound headling. Sometimes we go through these points of mental blockage because we aren’t ready, we need more time. And that’s okay, but don’t give up and not showing up is just the same as giving up. Don’t do it. Believe in yourself, believe more of yourself. You can do this!

The consistency of showing up slowly morphs into a routine. Even if you get a small amount of work done or you’re going through a rough patch. It’s like going to work, you still show up even if your best isn’t ideal for that day. The same goes for your writing. Your best that day just has to be good enough.

That’s my shpeal on this whole thing. Don’t give up. Take a deep breath, show up and the more you show up the easier it becomes. The easier it is to make time for showing up. It doesn’t seem so daunting after a while, it becomes a regular act like making your morning coffee. It grows on you and you find you can’t give it up or you don't want to have to.

Thank you so much for showing up guys! It’s so great to have you here! Yes, things have been getting better in the burnout area of my life, but it’s still hanging around and will at least a couple more weeks until I have a normal schedule again. But that’s okay, it’s under control and I’m managing it. I hope this helps you manage your struggles with burnout or blockages.

Thanks so much for hanging out guys. It was so great to have you! Lots of love! Until next time, buy.
